Hard mattress causing back pain, what can I do?

Post  andrew123 on Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:16 am

I'm at university at the moment, in a student flat, and we have really uncomfortable, hard mattresses here. Since being here, I've been having frequent lower back pains, and neck aches, headaches and migraines. I was with the same company but a different room last year, and by Christmas last year I was getting tension headaches and migraines so painful that I couldn't see and was in tears from the agony. After being home for summer for a few weeks my pains were completely gone - but now after a month at university again they're getting worse every day. I also find it very hard to sleep here - I wake up several times each night so end up tired all the time.

But enough complaining (haha), my question is - what can I do to make my bed more comfortable? I can't replace the mattress because it belongs to the accommodation providers, not me. I'm also extremely short on money at the moment. I tried putting a duvet underneath my sheet but it made very little difference.
