My triumphant...return?

Post  Lunaris on Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:07 am

God, it's been ages since I was here...

So, not that I figure I've been missed too badly, but I can't sleep right now and won't have a chance to before work...so...hello everyone, it's been too long, and I've really missed all of you. Hello to any new faces, if you don't know me, you will in a few minutes.

To the old faces, I'll be surprised if you remember me. Shame on you.

So yeah, I can't remember if it was my last post, but among my last posts I mentioned going for a job interview. This is about where life started falling apart for me in a bad, bad way. I'd like to blame it all on my stepdad, but...well, hell...it's all his fault. No sugarcoating it. The only thing I can say in his defense is that I was 24 and still living at home.

So, he decides he doesn't want me on his internet. Nevermind my offers to pay for my share of it, or my attempt to get my own line. His house, not allowed.

Thankfully, I got that job I was interviewed for. I'm a burger flipper for Burger King since early last July. Go me, I'm so ambitious.

Figure I can save money, get out on my own. I figured wrong. It started being that every last dime of my paychecks was being taken to cover the rising costs of gas and to pay for groceries. Regardless of this, I was still given such marvelous guilt trips as "Don't complain, you still eat here/you still use that gas." Yeah, I fucking paid for it.

I make, on average, a little over $120 a week at best. For me, this is fine. I don't need an excessive amount of luxury to be happy. I found early on a place within walking distance of work for $100 a week.

It seriously took me until the end of December to save enough to budget that with living expenses and necessities like food. And now, a month later, I've got the internet.

Crappy wireless broadband that caps at 75KB/s and cuts off randomly for apparently no reason, but internet nonetheless.

And with that story out of the way, I make my return and look forward to posting again in the coming days, weeks, and months. I'm sorry it took this long to get back and I hope it never happens again.

Not that I can promise that...but that's a major complaint for another thread in another board.

For now, shower me with love, wish me belated birthdays, and tell me I'm pretty. I need to hear/read some good things right now.

Or just say welcome back...your choice. I won't fault you for it.

Much love,
Elizabeth

Hey!

You know, I'm not sure we've ever really talked, but I do know who you are! We forgive you for abandoning us. Sad
And Happy Birthday, you are so pretty I will have to shower you with lots of love! Very Happy

I can sympathise with the internet thing, we have shitty 75KB too, and it ANNOYS ME.

But you want to read good things. Let me see what I can do.

Once there were 3 little pigs who lived together in mutual respect and in harmony with their environment. Using materials that were indigenous to the area they each built a beautiful house. One pig built a house of straw, one a house of sticks, and one a house of dung, clay and creeper vines shaped into bricks and baked in a small kiln. When they were finished, the pigs were satisfied with their work and settled back to live in peace and self-determination.

But their idyll was soon shattered. One day, along came a big, bad wolf with expansionist ideas. He saw the pigs and grew very hungry in both a physical and ideological sense.

When the pigs saw the wolf, they ran into the house of straw. The wolf ran up to the house and banged on the door, shouting, "Little pigs, little pigs, let me in!"

The pigs shouted back, "Your gunboat tactics hold no fear for pigs defending their homes and culture."

But the wolf wasn't to be denied what he thought was his manifest destiny. So he huffed and puffed and blew down the house of straw. The frightened pigs ran to the house of sticks, with the wolf in hot pursuit. Where the house had stood, other wolves bought up the land and started a banana plantation.

At the house of sticks, the wolf again banged on the door and shouted, "Little, pigs, little pigs, let me in!"

The pigs shouted back, "Go to hell, you carnivorous, imperialistic oppressor!"

At this the wolf huffed and puffed and blew down the house of sticks. The pigs ran to the house of bricks, with the wolf close at their heels. Where the house of sticks had stood, other wolves built a time-share condo resort complex for vacationing wolves, with each unit a fibreglass reconstruction of the house of sticks, as well as native curio shops, snorkelling and dolphin shows.

At the house of bricks, the wolf again banged on the door and shouted, "Little pigs, little pigs, let me in!"

This time in response, the pigs sang songs of solidarity and wrote letters of protest to the United Nations.

By now the wolf was getting angry at the pigs' refusal to see the situation from the carnivore's point of view. So he huffed and puffed, and huffed and puffed, then grabbed his chest and fell over dead from a massive heart attack brought on from eating too many fatty foods.

The three little pigs rejoiced that justice had triumphed and did a little dance around the corpse of the wolf. Their next step was to liberate their homeland. They gathered together a band of other pigs who had been forced off their lands. This new brigade of porcinistas attacked the resort complex with machine-guns and rocket launchers and slaughtered the cruel wolf oppressors, sending a clear signal to the rest of the hemisphere not to meddle in their internal affairs. Then the pigs set up a model socialist democracy with free education, universal health care and affordable housing for everyone.

Please note: The wolf in this story was a metaphorical construct. No actual wolves were harmed in the writing of the story.

And some cute pictures:

And in other news:

At least 50 children in America have become ill after kissing frogs. they are thought to have been copying Tiana, the heroine of teh new Disney film "The Princess and the Frog", in hope of finding a prince. Frogs carry salmonella amd other toxins on their skin. Laughing

A meeting of weight Watchers member in Sweden came to a sudden halt when the floor collapsed. Luckily they were unharmed and were able to continue their weigh-in in another room.

Cheer up!

Heheh. A unique take on the Three Little Pigs, I like it. Also, thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them, even if I did tell you to say them in the first place. Come on, you're one of the people here I didn't directly interact with, so of coure I know you're faking it...but I appreciate the thought, of murderer of at least one of Sesame Street gang.

Now to just get a shotgun, a birdcall, and a few decoys...

I don't know right now whether to curse my boss or kiss her. She only put me down to work two days this week, meaning I won't be able to make my rent. On the other hand, the weather has been rough outside and I don't have anything very warm to wear walking in, so for comfort's sake I can manage.

Actually, easy answer...I won't kiss her. I know for a fact she's bi and would probably enjoy it, and quite frankly...I have a lot to hold against her right now. I smell a rant in the makings. Suspect

But this thread should be happy. It should celebrate my return. And...I know just how to do it.

A joke.

A woman takes her 16-year-old daughter to the doctor. The doctor asks, "Okay, what's the problem?"

The mother answers, "It's my daughter. She keeps getting these cravings, she's putting on weight, and most mornings she's sick as a dog."

The doctor gives the daughter a good examination, then turns to the mother and says, "Well, I don't know how to tell you this...but your daughter is pregnant...about four months, by my best guess."

The mother says, "Pregnant?! She can't be. She's never ever been left alone with a man. Right, honey?"

The daughter replies, "No, mother! I've never even kissed a man."

The doctor walks over to the window and just stares out of it. About five minutes pass and finally the mother asks, "Is there something wrong outside?"

The doctor replies, "No, not really, it's just that the last time anything like this happened, a star appeared in the east and three wise men came over the hill, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss it this time!"

Just because you told me to say them doesn't mean that I was lying! I'm allowed to show empathy to a poor stranger in an unfortunate situation, am I not? Well, I have no idea if you're pretty, but your display picture is pretty, even though I don't like manga, so I'll have to go on that, and it was your birthday, so that was true. And I'm a cold hearted bitch, so there wasn't much love to shower, but I did try!

Its got a bit empty since you left though. There's me and Greven and Alain and Bryter, and sometimes Skyangel and ReiDavidson, and teh odd e-tumbleweed... So I'm glad to have someone new (sorta) around.

And you know, I can't rememember how the elmoslayer thing originated. I think it was one of those silly inside jokes you had when you were about 12, and it's stuck with me ever since. But still, elmo was fuckin' creepy. He deserves to be slain.

That's never happened to me at the doctors, but when I was getting my HPV jab, the lady was pretty insistent about whether I was on the pill, or wanted to take a pregnancy test, or could I be pregnant? Are you sure? How could you be sure? Are you really really sure? Geez.

A few jokes from me:

Whats the difference between a dead body and a porsche?

I don't have a porsche in my garage.

Whats the difference between Paris Hilton and a bowling ball?

You can only fit three fingers in a bowling ball.

English scientists now admit that they are able to create a human/sheep hybrid using nuclear transfer.

Welsh scientists have also come up with a way, but it uses a much more traditional method.

Heheheh, nice ones. Makes me think of an old joke too...

Scotland: Where the men are men, the women are women, and the sheep are scared.

Which reminds me of...

The Internet: Where the men are men, the women are men, and the children are FBI Agents.

Speaking of the others, I hope they do come back soon. I know that together we could rebuild and make this place better. It'd have to be grand since I'm back now, and it was active enough last time I was sticking around.

But over the last few days, you're the only one I've seen.

And somehow, when I was on yesterday a whole bunch of guests just swarmed the place...gave us a record number of users on at once time. Imagine that.

Yeah I saw that! Though nobody commented....

It's a shame it's got so quiet, something ought to be done really... Smile

I think it's kind of run away from its' original purpose, which was to discuss LGBT comics, so I guess it could do with a bit of a clean up. and if people are only signing in every so often, and they don't see and signs of recent activity, they'll forget about it. Maybe if thse of us that are left keep going at it then people with have something to join in with?

Also we have a bit of a lack of advertisement. I came here through Simply Sarah, but this forum isn't being advertised on those comics any longer, and we haven't got any members with comics who have added a section about them on the forum or are advertising the forum on their comic...

Sky said she would put up the advert again on her comic, but ReiDavidson hasn't been seen around much so really we would have to discuss it with her, as she's the only moderator. Sky knows her but hasn't been in contact for a while.

Well, I'm starting a comic soon, so I'll make sure to advertise it to what little readers I get. Even though my comic isnt LGBT, haha.

Any ideas?

What did Hitler have for breakfast?

Reich Krispies.

Did you see when Adolf Hitler was a guest baddie on Scooby Doo?

He had a pretty dastardly plan, and he would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling yids!

Why did Hitler commit suicide?

He got the gas bill.

George W. Bush wakes up one morning, feeling good. He calls in his Vice-President.
"Dick", he says, "I think I need a new title to reflect my position as leader of the free world. I'm going to call myself King."

"You can't do that," says Cheney, "you don't have a kingdom."

"Okay then," says Bush, "what about Emperor?"

"No good. You don't have an empire."

"Prince?"

"No. America isn't a principality."

"Okay... Err... Duke?"

"Nor is it a Duchy."

"Well, do you have any better ideas?" asks an exasperated Bush.

Cheney smiles. "It's obvious, George," he says. "You run a country."

Yeah, lack of activity and advertising will do a lot to run a place into the ground. There are only two real plausible ways to salvage such:

1: Post like crazy, get new content in every day or so, and that way people have something to jump in on.

2: Advertise like crazy, get people swarming in, and that way people will come and create content even if they don't read the old stuff.

Mixing them works, too.

Then there's another option that I'm hesitant to put forth simply because...well...this place should be good enough.

But...there's always the option of me, or you, or Sarah, or someone else who really loves this place making a whole new board to create fresh interest and get fresh things going in on. More mods could be set, too, so there would be more people to help run the place if someone disappears.

I don't know...it's cloudy out, that means I'm drowsy despite a full night's rest...I'll probably have better actually-good ideas later...

It's cloudy here too, but I'm in England, so thats what counts for sun over here.

I think you might be right about having a couple more mods, that way it wouldnt be so easy to get stuck in the rut of "Well, we need to do something but we need to ask the mod and we can't find them" Like now...haha.

I think it also needs teamwork, and I like your idea of getting something new in every day, or just breathing some life back into some of the old topics. I think more input needs to be on the comic discussion area, as that was what this was created for specifically, but that hasn't really happened.
Do you think we could approach some writers of LGBT related comics on Drunkduck etc, and ask them to advertise their comic on here by doing a little "ask the author" or something? I don't know. But we need more input on the comics.

But I'm in contact with Sky and Alain, and Alain knows BryterLayter, so we could all discuss this? If they're interested...

But I like it here, I don't want it to die! Theres no gays round here, I like being able to talk to some!

An author interview would be nice. Without Rei we can't really add new comics since we're not mods, but we could certainly put up interviews with authors to advertise their comics on here, which in turn would mean they could advertise the links to those specific threads on their comics...which means people would read those, and some would even hang around to look and see what was going on.

But I'd suggest doing that after things pick up a little. Get the other people we can back into the swing. Even if other people come here through other comics, they're still gonna want to have something to pick up on.

But hey, I love the idea. And I agree, I love it here too. I do have gays around where I live, but...meh. My boss is bi but she's a bitch. Another boss of mine is gay, and a blast, but we don't hang out much outside of work.

And does it have to be limited to Drunk Duck? My connection takes forever to load DD pages, so if it could be branched out at all I'd be thrilled. Haha.

And just because it's my favorite smiley, here's my obligatory post of it. Suspect

Okay, let's see...

1: I like a dark, royal purple...but a rich and vibrant red or midnight blue hold appeal too.

2: Roughing It, by Mark Twain, followed so close by The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Aurthur Conan Doyle.

3: Jessica Alba, though maybe Kevins Sorbo. Hercules was a hottie.

And you...

1: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

2: What is your favorite food?

3: How many beers until you're drunk?

I always wanted to be amarine biologist or an archaeologist. i was such a geek.

I like those spiral danish pastries with the raisins and white icing, but also crummpets and cheese and orange juice.

I hate beer and hardly drink anything at all, so i can safely say im a total lightweight and would be on the floor by like, 4 beers.

what would you do first if you ruled the world?

My first act would be to order a return of Crystal Pepsi. I know it seems trivial and pointless, but that's the point. I love it, and I miss it, and if I give the world the immediate impression that I don't care about larger issues, I'll be able to floor them with my takes on everything that does matter.

I would be a zombie. It seems ghosts anymore are overrated, vampires are becoming wimps, and werewolves are becoming the angsty misunderstood types that vampires were for the last decade, meaning werewolves will soon be wimps. Zombies...they never change. They're always awesome.

Pants work, or skirts...honestly? I know it sounds silly, but I'm proud of my rear end...so I like to wear whatever emphasizes it. Tight fits and all that. lol

What is your dream vehicle?

If you had all the money you could dream of, what would be the first thing you did with it?

whats crystal pepsi?! and vampires suck. zombies ARE awesome.

I think probably a coach and two, pulled by two friesian horses. I love horses, esp. friesians, and its more fun!

i think id go to a really posh hotel with my friends and family, and get pampered and fed to my hearts content. then id donate a load to various charities, and me and my family could live the good life. plus id get laid loads more if i was rich hahaha Very Happy

well, i like feminine and more butch girls, i dont really have a "type". but i have to say i love short hair, its so sexy to me. ooohh yeah! also im particulary fond of brunettes, dont know why, just do.

well i have to go now, but heres three questions, and ill see the answers later!

who is your idol and why?

if you could change your name to anything, what would it be?

what celebrity do you hate and why?

Crystal Pepsi was a drink released in the early 90's by Pepsi. It was clear, and unlike Pepsi, I loved Crystal Pepsi. Apparently it was made on the asumption that a clear drink must be a healthy drink or something, and it was off the market within a year or two, never to be heard of again.

Also, we share taste in hair color and length. Woo! Wink

My idol is probably...actually, your question makes me realize I don't [i[]have[/i] an idol...so...I'm going to go with Jesus Christ. My Lord, my Savior, everything a human should aspire to be. Loving, caring, self-sacrificing for the good of all humanity, even though most can not or will not every appreciate what he gave for them. Imagine if all the world were so altruistic.

Desiree. I just like the name. It invokes at once a mixed image of French culture, American White Trailer Trash, and Hot Little Number. I like it...and it's fun to say.

Insert the name of any celebrity of supports PETA. Why? Because while I can get behind supporting animal rights, I can't get behind the methods used by PETA, or some of the other more radical organizations. It's bullshit how they operate, and what they themselves do to so many of the animals they 'rescue' and yet people keep supporting them like bad politicians. Sorry, but no.

If you could change anything about your appearance, what would it be and why?

If you died and stood at the pearly gates, and were asked what one thing you did in life to make you a good person, what would you answer?

What's your favorite movie?

Crystal Pepsi was before my time Sad
And great minds think alike, we obviously have impeccable taste in our romantic partners.

If I could name myself anything, I think it would be Thelma. A lot of people think it's an ugly name, but she was a character in an old TV series a few years back, and she was my idol. So yeah Smile

And UGH I agree about the peta thing. I don't like animal cruelty, or needless animal testing, but seriously. A couple years back the ALF started a smear campaign on a guinea-pig breeding farm here in England. They vandalised the entire village and even dug up the grandmother of the farm owner, and demanded they close down in order to get the corpse back. Frankly there are better and more civilised ways to deal with these things, acting like animals yourselves will not sway anyone to your cause. Besides, nowadays the vast majority of animal testing etc is relatively humane, with many of the more brutal tests (eg. LD50, Draize tests) being illegal now. I still think we need tests to help further our medical knowledge, as even with skin grafts and cell cultures we dont have enough suitable alternative technology. But ANYWAY, let's not get into that.

If i could change one thing about my appearance, it would be my legs. i went through a real chubby phase when i was younger and ended up with a whole bunch of stretchmarks on my thighs and bum. So I wouldnt mind getting rid of them.

Hahah umm I don't know what i would answer. i don't think naming one altruistic or kind act in your life makes you a good person, you have to be kind and loving every day to be a truly good person. One off acts don't really count.

Well, I don't watch a lot of films/tv, but I do really like horror movies, especially Saw 1 and Sweeney Todd. I also liek all the classic disneys and anything with Johnny Depp, I would lose my gold star for him any day. Very Happy

I happen to think Thelma is a beautiful name. My favorite aunt was named Thelma. She died before your time though, but I'll always cherish those memories. She always had a shiny red apple for me every time me and my brother went to visit. Very Happy

Everyone always laughs at me when I say the only thing I'd change about myself is my breasts. Suspect I don't want monsters or anything, but I think I could stand an extra inch or two on the cup measurements. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a slightly narrower jawline either. I odn't think it's a problem, but...it's just something that pops to mind.

And no, no one altruistic deed makes you a good person...it was just a hypothetical thing. Smile

For TV, about all I ever watched recently was stuff like MythBusters and The FBI Files...stuff where people solve things or figure things out. That kinda stuff fascinates me. For movies, my favorite has to be the first Tremors movie. Kevin Bacon is to me what Johnny Depp is to you. Very Happy

My favorite place in the world? I don't know, I haven't been to all that many places. My favorite place I have been is the great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. Pigeon Forge rocks. The place I most want to visit...has to be Japan. I've started making headway into learning the language in hopes of saving for a trip and going over there. I wanna see the sights, read the books, and enjoy the culture.

Most people don't believe me, but my earliest memory comes before my earlier memory in that my earliest waking memory is from when I was three years old...but my earliest memory is a dream I had when I was two. According to my Mom I was afraid of vacuum cleaners back then, and so it makes sense that my earliest memory is a dream of me being chased by an evil vacuum cleaner around the house we lived in at the time. My earliest conscious memory was of me and my grandpa when he'd roll me around in the wheelbarrow out in his garden.

My favorite comedian was probably the late (and great) Mitch Hedberg. I absolutely love(d) his surrealistic and non-sequitor style, the deadpan nature of his one-liners, just...everything. It took a certain way of seeing things to fully appreciate his humor but it was unstoppable once I started laughing.

"Wonder what flowers would say if they could talk? Fuck, that hurts. Fuck, that hurts as well. Fuck, quit it! He loves you not, and I am no longer pretty. I could have told you I had an even number of petals."

Yeah...

Who was your first childhood celebrity crush?

If you could take back one thing you said in the last twenty-four hours, what would it be and why?

What's your favorite animal?

Hahaha yeah on the breasts thing, just one more cup size? Please? My best friend has HUGE boobs, I wish she could just you know, donate some?

i've only ever been to Florida to go to Disneyland, but I would like to see some more of America one day. There's a lot to see! However, I love England, and my favourite place has to be the Lake District, as rainy and cold as it is. It's just somewhere I can really think, and relax.

I love mystery programmes too! And i think I've seen Tremors, years back, but I cant remember a lot of it haha

I think... my first celebrity crush would have to be.. well, this is embarrassing but it was probably Konnie Huq from blue peter, although I didnt really think of it as a crush at the time.

I would take back what I said to a guy today, via email, who asked me out on a date yesterday. I tried to be nice and all, but I still feel liek a bit of a douche, and would like to have changed my wording a bit when i was turning him down. (although he's a creep and I really shouldnt care.)

I like all animals, but especially hedgehogs, horses, guinea pigs, cats, frogs, and giraffes. I am petrified of all flying insects apart from butterflies, but I'm really allergic to bug bites so I guess it's okay for me to run screaming from a midge. sorta...

If you could be better than anyone else at one thing, what would it be?

What colour socks are you wearing?

If you could go back in time, when would you go?

I'm generally a 32B. Small. I say generally because sometimes I'll go in for a fitting for the hell of it and the places will tell me 34B. Why their measuring strips can agree on my breasts but not my bustline confuses me. I'm done this back-to-back before. But...enough places go with 32 that I'm fine sticking with it. And yeah, just one size more! C's please! Haha. I was the smallest girl in most my high school classes. I felt a little envious with the other girls showing off. I always figured it was just my curse. I don't agree with surgery though, I'll never have anything done to alter my appearance that a major accident doesn't make necessary.

My first celebrity crush was Kurt Cobain. It was, like...'92, I was seven, and I saw Nirvana on MTV. Blonde hair, such beautiful blue eyes, and so calm, so relaxed, like he was just in control. I know it wasn't really the case, but...damn, I was hooked. I'd still have his babies, if he wasn't, you know, dead...

I don't have anything in the last 24 hours I'd really take back, because I haven't talked to a lot of people. The closest thing would be when my mom typoed talking about a kitten. It went something like...

"Did I tell you about Stubby's bbay?

*Baby"

And, since I didn't see the first part first all I saw was Baby, and typed back "Please, just call me Elizabeth."

I thought it was more funny but I don't think she got it.

And I love cats. Long-haired American bobtails are among the friendliest (And...hairiest...) cats. They'll lick you, rarely use their claws, really affectionate...and the one at Mom's house actually seems to 'talk' if you speak to her. Just meows, but it's like she's trying to communicate. It's funny, and she's wicked smart. I also like small dogs. Pomeranians and Long-haired Chihuahuas especially.

If I could be better at something than anyone else...it would be writing. It's what I'm best at anyways. My ACT's had me at top score on the national grade. I even scored top-marks for an extra writing essay I opted to take, and I didn't even finish the essay. I'm proud of it. But...I know there are better writers, and I want to be better than them. Writing is, to me, the ultimate form of art. A picture is worth a thousand words, and rarely more than that, but a mere few hundred words can paint a picture no oils or pastels could ever hope to invoke.

I'm wearing pink socks. Go ahead and laugh. I twisted my ankle on the way to work today and had to finish walking there, and work six hours there, then walk back home...in pain. If I wanna put my comfy pink socks on and then tie the ice pack on over them...that's my business. Granted, I look silly wearing nothing but pink socks, but it's my apartment, I can wear, or not wear, whatever I want. So, nyeh!

Back to any point in time? That's a hard one...but probably back to the late '80's or so...spend some more time with my grandpa before cancer gets the best of him and he dies. I know he wouldn't be proud of me if he was still around, but I know that proud or not, he'd still love me and let me know it. That's what matters to me. I could always count on his support with anything, even if it involved me misbehaving a bit. I'll always miss him.
