I love my job...but work sucks.

Yeah, you read that right. My job is, on its own, great. It's fun, the coworkers are (For the most part) a blast, even most the managers are awesome. Still, shit happens...and this is my place to vent...and for anyone who has a bad working experience (Or experiences) for that matter.

My current complaint is on the broiler we use. We used to have a nice one. It was a bit old, but it worked wonderfully, and if it cooked the meat and the meat came out raw, we could either run the meat through again, or adjust the speed things went through and cook them slower to get things done better. We could also run more meat at the same time. Just place the patties on the moving rails, and voila. Fitting up to five patties across on a row meant I could cook up to 30 at a time.

This was important...when people get hungry, the order a LOT of hamburgers.

Then, despite the fact our sales are lagging a bit thanks to the economy, our bosses decide we're not doing things efficiently enough. What do they do? They spend money we're barely making to get us a broiler that takes up a lot more space, making it hard for some crew members to move around in the kitchen. Not only that, the new broiler only cooks, at most, twelve burgers at a time, takes two minutes to do it, and has no way of changing the heat or speed settings.

If someone comes up and (As they often do) orders too many burgers, then things get fucked really fast. One Sunday I was stuck in that kitchen alone and orders kept piling up, and it was fifteen minutes getting some people their double cheeseburgers.

It's just a pain in the ass, serves no purpose at all. The only things it's done for us is...it takes up more space, wasted a lot of money, and became less efficient...all so the bosses can create the illusion that we didn't know what the hell we were doing to begin with.

When I say bosses, I mostly mean corporate. The only one that bad that actually works in the restaurant is our General Manager. A bisexual bitch with a habit of drinking, surfing porn on the computer in the office (Which she's not supposed to do), and complaining about things that aren't even an issue.

Names and locations will not, for purposes I hope everyone can relate to, be given.

But damn, sometimes I feel like I'm working in the fast food equivalent of a Dilbert strip...

Well, I'm on benefits at the moment and can't find a job anywhere, so I have no real complaints about work now...

But my friend works as a bra-fitter and once had to fit a woman so fat she couldn't get the measuring-tape around her, and had to pretty much grind against this smelly obese woman for 15 minutes while she tried to fit her.

Your boss sounds like a BITCH, even if she only gave you 2 days work this week. Just hope that one day she'll get caught looking at that porn when the district manager is round, and you get made manager instead. Ahhh...

Maybe the new machine is an attempt to decrease america's waistline? If people can only order 2 cheeseburgers at a time, there's less obesity. Or they'll just go to the KFC and Starbucks next door, and get fat there. And then you lose your job Sad

The people who got that machine need to come and actually work with it, so they can see what dumbasses they are.

Well, that was fun...copied and pasted a response in here, but my internet disconnected on me and I lost it, and now it won't re-paste.

Screw it, not gonna re-type the whole thing.

But to summarize...

...I fixed a virus on that work comp once already. If it happens again, I made sure my boss will have to explain what happened. Hard to prevent things in the future when your antivirus is gone. I don't work for free. o.o

...More than the broiler, we have things called 'kitchen minder's now. Pieces of shit. They tell us what to cook and what to throw away, and how much of it.

Drop three chicken, or discard the tray of fish...that's what we're supposed to do...if we're idiots. If it's 2:30 and slow as hell, I'm not dropping the chicken in the example above because they'll go to waste within an hour. The fish I might discard if they've been in the heating tray over an hour...but that thing says to toss 'em after thirty minutes. I know from experience our food lasts longer than that.

All it does is...creates waste, wastes money, acts as a pain in our ass. Only the idiots follow it...and they shouldn't.

Why?

Because they work up front on the registers, not in the kitchen. It aggravates me when I have just three sandwiches to make and they get so impatient they have to jump back to 'help' me by fucking up the system. Put the fixings on wrong, drop too much food, throw out perfectly good food...

It's annoying, and I've mentioned it to them. If you work up front, stay up front. I have the kitchen, and if I need help I will ask for it. Most the managers agree, so...it's usually not too big a deal as long as one of them is around.

But it's a pain nevertheless.
