Highway to hell

Post  greven on Thu Feb 19, 2009 5:45 am

As usual I will start this thing.

This is the only half decent comic strip I have ever created.
I know the art is horrible and all but I had fun making it.

Blinded by love

Post  greven on Sun Feb 22, 2009 6:24 pm

Blinded by love

You said you loved my blue eyes, so I asked an optician and was told they were brown.

You said you loved my curly hair, so I asked a hairdresser and was told it was smooth.

You said you loved my maroon skin, so I asked a stripper and was told it was white.

You said I was beautiful, so I asked a doctor and was told you were blind.

Sooo I wrote this after pondering on the phrase blinded by love and this thing popped in. I hope you liked it Smile

Re: All the small things

Post  greven on Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:21 am

I was talking to someone on DA the other day in the comment section of one of my stories and I mention that I find my ability to express everything in the coolest way possible one of my greatest strenghs. So I decided to do a little live demonstration, and here is the result.

It was as if the world itself had stopped moving, nothing else mattered, everyone was waiting for him, for his answer.
He looked up, a tiny grin upon his face, staring at the inocent girl in front of him. She was so young, so inexperienced, he chuckled at the thought of the power he held within his grasp as he finally spoke and broke the spell that had held the world silent: "I'll have a cheeseburger."

Lol hope you like it.

BTW This thread was never meant to be all me, I feel like an ego maniac since I am the only one posting here Embarassed

I shall post a poem I wrote in high school.

Broken.
Battered.
A pain like no other.
I knew
I should not
Have fallen from the ladder.

Snaps.

I have

Post  greven on Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:18 am

I have seen London, Rome and Paris, I have met peasants, guards and kings, and I have seen what men can be.

I have soared through the sky, I have helped protect a lie, and I have sailed beneath the sea.

I have helped build the longest wall, I have created roads of rails, and I have built the graves of gods.

I have worked for one called Great, I have ridden Mongols horses, and I have seen the queen of nods.

I have fought a tribe with stone, I have fought a king with steel, and I have killed a man with lead.

I have once lived to fight, I have often fought to live, but now I wish me dead.

Ok, ok ok, I know you started this thread with that idea that people could show off small things without necessarily looking for in-depth analysis but may I? Because, that last poem, that's almost too good to pass up.

You can do analysis if you want to Very Happy
The thread was just so that we wouldnt get a thousand threads with 5 word poems in them, so I thought it could be a place to place the small stuff that you can read in a jiffy if you dont have time to read long novels.

But please go right ahead Smile

Re: All the small things

Post  Joneko on Mon Apr 13, 2009 9:00 pm

Sweet. Not that I'd already typed, sent, read the first post, copypasted elsewhere embarrassedly and waited.

But if I'd done that here would, you know, be what I copypasted and was waiting to post.

I particularly like the idea behind the poem, and the way it starts makes one brace one's self for something insightful, if not maybe a bit, which you do to an extent accomplish in its simplicity. Actually I think its simplicity is one of its strongest points. The language has a classic sort of feel to it without being heavy-handed, IMO, which is wonderful.

Sometime during, however, the rhythm is a little awkward, or the idea doesn't match in the theme of the line (i.e., "I have soared through the sky, I have helped protect a lie, and I have sailed beneath the sea;" the middle piece doesn't fit with the others in that general introduction to the idea of your wide variety of experiences, and throws it off.) The 'build the longest wall' comes off as a little awkward to me, mainly because 'helped build' doesn't have the same solely active nature as 'created' and built'. If you could find something that better fits the parallelism there -- another single verb -- it would make it stellar. I like the variety, again -- from the magnitude of the 'longest wall' to the basic necessity but vast amount of hard menial labor of 'roads of rail' to the mystic, ethereal 'graves of gods.' It does a great job of continuing to express a mix of highs and lows, of the most importance and honor to the most menial and thankless.

Mongols horses, queen of nods, an awesome historical timelessness. But 'one called Great'? Who is the 'one called Great'?

I think the last two lines are perfect, and the last words just make one have to stop and look back. It almost reminds me a little of the idea of "Richard Cory" in the idea that someone has experienced so much to seem like he would be the envy of the reader, and then hits them with something like a death wish.

...yeah I realize this was so much longer than your poem. Buuuut the poem really caught me. Sorry!

I find this really really funny. You have put more thought into your analysis than I did the actual poem XD

To get to your first comment: What do you think the idea behind the poem is. I got 10 points on you getting it wrong, no offence.
I meat to keep it simple as I am horrible with the whole rhyme thingie. and I like classic writing, in small bits at least. I will get back to it tommorrow perhaps, I will see if I can fix it up a bit

Like I said I am really not very good with the rhythmes Razz also it was getting late and I couldnt find anything that was better fitting so there you go.

No one gets who the great one is XD can no one think of a historical figure with the name great? for real? is it too european for you Razz
I dont know this richard corry, he sounds nice though Razz

New and better version, at least I think so. I worked on the things you didnt like and I ended up with a significantly improved result. The one called great was Alexader the great by the way.

I Have

I have seen London, Rome and Paris, I have met peasants, guards and kings, and I have seen what men can be.
I have soared through the sky, I have ridden metal horses, and I have sailed beneath the sea.

I have stacked stones in henges, I have created roads of rails, and I have built the graves of gods.
I have twisted the crown of thorns, I have ridden Mongols horses, and I have seen the queen of nods.

I have fought tribes with stone, I have fought kings with steel, and I have killed men with lead.
I have once lived to fight, I have often fought to live, but now I wish me dead.

If anyone cares here is a bit of bonus info: I have taken out all 'a' and 'an's because they stuck out like a soar thumb (does that make any sense at all? I doubt it, but that has never stopped me before)

Okay seems like no one gave a shit, But since when have that stopped me? So here is a little extra thing, this would fall under the genre Short prose, look it up, it actually makes sence if you think of it as short prose.

It’s the road, that road, you know the road as well as I do, we all know the road.
It’s the road we all have to walk down, with him as our guide.

Did you ever use to watch Buffy? I didn't. That's why my obsessed friend is having me watch episodes every time I come over for a visit. Anyhow, this is what the result is:

When the moon wanes and the virgins bleed,
The Master knows it is time to feed. D<

That is what I thought as soon as I saw the guy for the first time. The picture isn't even a good tribute to how much like a vagina The Master really does look. He's so much more pink, so much more wrinkly, so much more... wet looking...?
