Something was up 1/31/09

Poor Gerry. What do you guys suppose happened?

I and at least one other user mentioned that we'd thought that Caroline was Gerry's best friend and not something more. Being told that they were in a relationship sparked all sorts of thinking, like... why did Gerry get picked on so much when it appeared Caroline didn't have it so bad? My theory is that she just wasn't on the same wave length as Gerry was, she wasn't ready to come out (especially having seen the consequences through Gerry) and in turn wasn't putting up with as much as Geraldine was, supportful of a girlfriend as she was. Outness can cause real big trouble in relationships. Also, Carol may not have been completely sure about her sexuality. Drama Drama Drama

Flyhue!!! I'm shocked!! Actually reading this discussion is interesting, because it's pretty much what I was expecting. When I finished writing part one, I didn't think there was much mileage in just having Sarah and Janey all lovey-dovey from there on. Although we all dream in our teens of having the perfect partner and an ideal relationship I think it rarely is the case, and it seemed far more interesting to explore the pressure that comes from family and friends when two people start dating seriously.
Also I've noticed that often the people we fall for are not often the right choice for us in other peoples eyes. It was in my mind at the start of writing part three to make Gerry the perfect partner for Sarah. She is so similar in many ways that the two would no doubt be very happy together. To make matters worse Janey often seems a little selfish, and uncaring, which makes Gerry an even stronger option. But as in life Janey has that special something that Gerry can't supply. Maybe it is chemistry or just the fact that Gerry seems too easy, It so often seems true though doesn't it that love is blind.
BTW Caroline was meant to be gerry's g/f from the start. I just never made a big thing of it as it seemed unimportant at the time. In fact that one panel is the only time Caroline is mentioned until now. Caroline attended a different school too, which is something else I totally never mentioned * slaps wrist*. They actually met through the riding school. I didn't want Caroline involved in the bullying scenes at school as I wanted Sarah to realise Gerry needed a friend and have to decide if she would be the one or not. The next few pages of SS explains more about Caroline and Gerry's relationship etc.
